Millennium (1996)

1x10 The Wild and the Innocent, written by Thomas J. Wright, directed by Jorge Zamacona and Charles Holland.

The tone shifts in this one, from mere crime to unsalvageable tragedy, which is more Millennium-like, even without a supernatural element.

The plot is like a darker The Sugarland Express (1974) combined with Badlands (1973). A young woman searches for her lost baby, accompanied by a wild and violent boyfriend.

We have a contrast in families: young Maddie's misery with Frank's joyous time with his daughter.

Maddie has been abused by every man in his life. She says to Frank at the end: "You saved me that day. Only man in my life that ever did something nice for me".

Peter Watts is always a Man in Black. He and Frank are confused at one point, and their confusion confuses me. We have the narration of Maddie's letters -- never sent -- which they think are to her father. We know she is writing down her thoughts for the baby: "I never wanted to be one of those people that gets too used to being sad".

Maddie's last lines from prison: "I spend my time thinking of Angel. Praying he ain't thinking of me".

When filming they make a baby cry for a long time. He's too young to be an actor.

Young Jeffrey Donovan -- Burn Notice -- is the dangerous boyfriend, killing too easily. He's scary.

A state trooper is played by Michael Hogan -- Col Tigh in the Battlestar Galactica reboot. His granny was a toaster.
