Frank is called in for a case of a raving man bleeding with something that looks like Ebola. He discovers it is not an infectious disease but rather the result of genetic experiments. Many similar "John Doe" corpses are showing up at the morgue and sinister "men in trenchcoats" appear to be cleaning up the trail.
They might be using the Department of Energy and Human Genome Project as covers, but Frank finds both agencies to be suspicious.
Peter is angry that Frank took a job without telling the Group. Frank has another stalker, an anonymous caller who does not speak.
This is more of an X-Files plot but plagues (or genetic tampering) have apocalyptic implications in keeping with Millennium. The suspicion is that the experiments are for control of populations, and that the Rwanda massacres were a result.
People caught up in this tend to paranoid raving but sometimes shout the truth.
We have more season 2 quips between the characters. Frank and hacker Roedecker (Allan Zinyk) are practically a comedy team.
Patient Zero is played by Clarence Williams III, 110 acting credits in the IMDB, including 123 episodes of The Mod Squad which count as one.
