Torture Garden (1967), directed by Freddie Francis.
A mild-mannered entry in the Amicus series of horror anthologies. All stories are written by Robert Bloch.
The setup is similar to Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965): instead of tarot cards we have carnie Burgess Meredith's waxwork goddess of Fate who reveals anyone's ghastly future.
Enoch. After murdering his uncle for his fortune, a young man has to dig it up in the cellar. World's worst idea.
Terror Over Hollywood. Young actress will do anything to be a star. "Anything" stretches to a pretty far shore.
Mr. Steinway. How scary is a haunted piano? Not very, although the geometric visual design reminds me of episodes of The Outer Limits (1963).
The Man Who Collected Poe. At least we have Peter Cushing and Jack Palance.
The complete series:
Torture Garden (1967)
The Vault of Horror (1973)
From Beyond the Grave (1974)
Available on Blu-ray from Mill Creek.
